Village Hall – Handover of Management
Posted: Tue, 28 Mar 2017 15:21 by Phillip Woodward
On Saturday 1st April the parish council will be handing over the management and operation of the village hall to a new charity.
The Pilsley Village Hall Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIOI) has been established by a group of local volunteers who responded to the parish council's consultation last year about the future of the village hall.
For a number of years the village hall had been losing money, largely because of the large annual bill for business rates – almost £5000 per year. However, charitable organisations are able to claim relief on business rates, often up to 100%, and this means that the Pilsley Village Hall CIO starts its life with an immediate £5000 annual advantage over the parish council.
The new CIO will operate the hall in much the same way as the parish council but will be looking to expand usage wherever possible. The parish council will still retain ownership of the building and will ensure that it is maintained in good order.
We wish the Pilsley Village Hall CIO every success for the future and hope that all residents and local clubs will make use of the hall, which has very flexible accommodation and competitive hire rates, for all of their social and business functions in the years to come.
