Council Meeting

The Parish Council acts in an open and transparent manner and any resident is welcome to challenge individual Councillors about decisions made or about to be made at any time. This can be done personally, by 'phone or e-mail using the contact details available on the Parish Council website, which can also be accessed using the 'Contact Us' button at the top of our Facebook page. Residents are also invited to have their say at all Parish Council Meetings, which take place monthly on the first Monday of the month (usually) subject to Bank Holidays etc. at 6.30 pm in the village hall.

One of the issues we are challenged most on is planning decisions and our approach to these. Just to clarify our position on these it must be understood that the Parish Council is NOT a planning authority - i.e. we are not the formal decision-making body. We can only comment on planning applications made to North East Derbyshire District Council, just like any other member of the public.

Our view is that if we receive a strong message from residents that a particular application is not good for the village, we will, after discussion in Council, support that view if we agree. Otherwise - and in the majority of cases - we do not comment either in support of or against an application.

The local planning authority is North East Derbyshire District Council. They make all final decisions on planning applications in Pilsley based on advice from their Planning Officers, who take into account individual objections or comments, including those submitted by the Parish Council.

Further information about the role of the Parish Council and the District Council in relation to planning matters can be found on the website, by clicking on the 'Contact Us' button above.
