Council Meeting

Proposed Closure of Pilsley Surgery

The Parish council was shocked and saddened to learn of Staffa Health's proposal to close Pilsley doctors' surgery.

Staffa Health will begin a consultation process commencing on 24th June and ending on 23rd august.

All Pilsley surgery patients will receive a letter setting out the reasons for the proposals together with a questionnaire seeking views on their proposals.

Pilsley Parish Council Chairman, Peter Stevenson, said "the Council will strongly oppose Staffa Health's proposal and urges all patients to do likewise. During the consultation process we propose to make a strong case for the retention of our surgery which we hope will persuade Staffa Health to change its mind.

We have asked our Member of Parliament to join our fight and look forward to hearing from him.

Whilst we appreciate Staffa Health's difficulties we do not accept its reason for singling out Pilsley for closure.

One of the suggestions we will put forward during the consultation will be for all four surgeries which are part of Staffa Health to be retained with less opening hours. If Staffa Health really cares about its patients particularly the elderly and those without transport it will heed this suggestion.

We will not let Pilsley surgery disappear without a fight; please join us in this fight".
